Description Chris Murphy 2022-06-09 14:31:56 UTC
Description of problem:

Following a recent update, I can't play video at some sites. e.g.
https://weather.com/news/weather/video/california-restricting-water-usage-in-some-parts-of-the-state?cm_ven=hp-slot-4

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
firefox-100.0-2.fc36.x86_64 is ok
firefox-101.0-1.fc36.x86_64 is not ok

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Update to firefox-101.0-1.fc36.x86_64
2.
3.

Actual results:

Some videos can't be played, not sure of the pattern

Expected results:

They should play

Additional info:

Only default enabled repos, no RPM Fusion video

$ rpm -qa ffmpeg\*
(no results)

Downgrading back to firefox-100.0-2.fc36.x86_64 fixes the problem.

$ rpm -qa | grep openh
openh264-2.2.0-1.fc36.x86_64
mozilla-openh264-2.2.0-1.fc36.x86_64
gstreamer1-plugin-openh264-1.20.0-1.fc36.x86_64

Comment 1 Chris Murphy 2022-06-09 14:37:34 UTC
about:plugins only lists

OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.

    File: 1.8.1.1
    Path: /home/chris/.mozilla/firefox/n945ldd3.default/gmp-gmpopenh264/1.8.1.1
    Version: 1.8.1.1
    This plugin is automatically installed by Mozilla to comply with the WebRTC specification and to enable WebRTC calls with devices that require the H.264 video codec. Visit https://www.openh264.org/ to view the codec source code and learn more about the implementation.

Comment 2 Chris Murphy 2022-06-09 14:49:34 UTC
Not really seeing any differences in the troubleshooting raw data that explains this issue, but I'll attach them anyway.

Also noticing 101 isn't reporting Fedora in the UA field

    "userAgent": "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:100.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/100.0",
    "userAgent": "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:101.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/101.0",

Comment 5 Martin Stransky 2022-06-09 14:56:49 UTC
Please try to reset these keys at about:config:

media.gmp-gmpopenh264.autoupdate
media.gmp-gmpopenh264.enabled
media.gmp-gmpopenh264.provider.enabled
media.gmp-gmpopenh264.version

and restart browser. Does it help?

Comment 6 Chris Murphy 2022-06-09 15:43:34 UTC
(In reply to Martin Stransky from comment #5)
> media.gmp-gmpopenh264.autoupdate
> media.gmp-gmpopenh264.enabled
> media.gmp-gmpopenh264.provider.enabled

These are false so no reset available.

> media.gmp-gmpopenh264.version

This changed from 1.8.1.1 to system-installed

> and restart browser. Does it help?

No change.

Comment 7 Chris Murphy 2022-06-09 15:58:35 UTC
FWIW I used the ⇄ button to flip each of the settings, so that I get a ↶ option to reset, and reset each - no change.

Comment 8 Martin Stransky 2022-06-09 16:44:13 UTC
Yes, GMP/openh264 looks ignored by 101 release (unless you use ffmpeg-free).
