jwltest kernel failed screen none

Description Jacky Cui 2006-10-23 04:59:45 UTC
Install RHEL AS4 UP4 on our designed board ( Intel Yonah T2500 2M 2.0GHz,
Intel mobile 945GM NB, Intel ICH7 SB, SigmaTel STAC9220 HDA audio ), when
first boot after completed install, it will hang at:
"Initializing Hardware...Storage Network"

I tried with test kernel from http://people.redhat.com/linville/kernels/rhel4/
kernel-2.6.9-42.19.EL.jwltest.169.i686.rpm
enable HDA audio, fail at kernel panic.(see picture attached)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install RHEL4 AS4 UP4 on our hardware platform (see above)
2. Boot new install.

Comment 2 German Monroy 2006-10-25 21:40:36 UTC
just to make sure, could you please disable the network in BIOS and try again
the jwltest kernel?

also could you please try updating the BIOS?

we have a desktop 945G board with the same codec that is booting fine and
playing sounds without a problem...

Comment 3 Jacky Cui 2006-10-26 02:00:23 UTC
OK, clear for one thing, this hardware platform is designed by ourself, BIOS
team provide BIOS to us for testing, I think the BIOS is newest one.(do you
provide which part of BIOS should be adjusted for RHEL4? if have, I will ask
BIOS team to modify.)

I tried with network disable and booting with jwltest kernel, the result is
same as comment #1 picture, also failed.

I think 945G is different with 945GM.

Comment 4 John W. Linville 2006-10-26 15:16:00 UTC
FWIW the time I saw behaviour like this on a pre-release HP box, it was fixed
by a BIOS update on that box. I don't know exactly (or even generlaly) what
they changed...

Comment 5 Jacky Cui 2006-10-27 02:20:25 UTC
FYI...
we have tested this using Knoppix Linux 5.01 english, boot without error and
sound work well. (kernel 2.6.17)
can this exclude BIOS bugs of our platform?

Comment 6 Jacky Cui 2006-10-27 02:22:03 UTC
Append one thingļ¼›

We also tried with RHEL AS4 (no update), the system booting ok.

Comment 7 Brian Maly 2008-02-15 15:33:27 UTC
Can you please test with a recent RHEL4 kernel? There have been many updates to
ALSA (including the sigmatel code) since this bug was reported which may resolve
this issue.

If it is not fixed, please, attach output from 'cat /proc/asound/card0/codec*'
so the exact codec can be identified. Thanks.
