It appears that a change was backported to 11u in the last cycle that causes HotSpot to crash under some workloads:

The change was backed out in both OpenJDK and Oracle 11u releases in an interim 11.0.16.1 release.

We should revert this change using the upstream release as soon as possible and before the October security update where possible.
