Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Satyajit Das 2022-09-13 09:13:27 UTC
Description of problem:

When booting a satellite server, the following message is displayed in the system log:

[/usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/puppetserver.conf:1] Line references path below legacy directory /var/run/, updating /var/run/puppetlabs/puppetserver → /run/puppetlabs/puppetserver; please update the tmpfiles.d/ drop-in file accordingly.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Satellite 6.11 + Rhel-8

How reproducible:

100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install satellite 6.11 on Rhel-8
2. Reboot the server or manually restart systemd-tmpfiles-clean.service

Actual results:

/var/log/messages
-------------------
Sep 13 13:32:17 satellite.example.com systemd[1]: Starting Cleanup of Temporary Directories...
Sep 13 13:32:17 satellite.examplecom systemd-tmpfiles[1019488]: [/usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/puppetserver.conf:1] Line references path below legacy directory /var/run/, updating /var/run/puppetlabs/puppetserver → /run/puppetlabs/puppetserver; please update the tmpfiles.d/ drop-in file accordingly.
Sep 13 13:32:17 satellite.example.com systemd[1]: systemd-tmpfiles-clean.service: Succeeded.

Expected results:

/var/run/ is a legacy directory, the path should be updated in the config files to avoid warning.

Additional info:

# dnf whatprovides /var/run/puppetlabs/puppetserver

puppetserver-7.4.2-1.el8sat.noarch : Puppet Labs - puppetserver
Repo : @System
Matched from:
Filename : /var/run/puppetlabs/puppetserver

Workaround:-

Tried the workaround from the article[1] and fixed the issue.

sed "s/\/var\/run\//\/run\//g" /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/puppetserver.conf > /etc/tmpfiles.d/puppetserver.conf

Feb 6 08:41:05 sat.host.com systemd[1]: systemd-tmpfiles-clean.service: Succeeded.
