Description milranmike 2022-10-26 01:25:20 UTC
Please branch and build postsrsd in epel8 and epel9.

If you do not wish to maintain postsrsd in epel8 or epel9,
or do not think you will be able to do this in a timely manner,
I would be happy to be a co-maintainer of the package (FAS milranmike);
please add me through https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/postsrsd/adduser

Comment 1 Marc Dequènes (Duck) 2022-10-26 03:23:29 UTC
Quack,

You're right I've been slow to make updates on this package.

I updated to 1.12 and built it on Fedora. There already was an epel8 branch but the package was probably removed, so I rebuilt it and there was no error.
I've requested an epel9 branch.

Hopefully that should be solved soon. We use this package in the RH OSPO infra so want to continue maintaining it but if I find myself overwhelmed I will take up on your offer, thank you.

Regards.

Thanks Duck!

Comment 3 Marc Dequènes (Duck) 2022-10-26 08:18:52 UTC
So it seems there's no need to create a ticket to get a branch now, very handy. So I created it and was able to build for epel9.

I'll close the ticket when they are both accepted.

Comment 4 Jered Floyd 2022-10-26 13:30:55 UTC
I would also volunteer to be a co-maintainer -- I have an interest in getting this PR into the Fedora/EPEL builds as I depend upon it for my infrastructure: https://github.com/roehling/postsrsd/pull/123

Comment 5 Marc Dequènes (Duck) 2022-10-26 15:50:37 UTC
@jered I understand your need but I'm not going to include a patch that upstream explicitly rejected. I don't know if 2.0 is going to be a thing and when but I do not want to maintain your patch if you happen to be unavailable and then handle the upgrade path when 2.0 is out.

Comment 6 milranmike 2022-10-27 02:12:07 UTC
@duck Would you rebuild the package also on epel7? We use this package on some parts of infrastructure running on CentOS 7.

Comment 7 Jered Floyd 2022-10-27 02:30:50 UTC
@duck That's a fair response -- I don't have a lot of confidence in upstream actually doing 2.0, but it's a reasonable justification for not taking a patch. I'll stick to my copr repo for now...

Comment 8 Marc Dequènes (Duck) 2022-10-27 06:47:10 UTC
@milranmike I tried to rebuild it for epel7 but it fails because it requires Cmake 3 which is not available. I looked back in time and the last version using Cmake <3 is 1.6, that's pretty old and I guess you'll miss some features/fixes. If the cmake maintainer agrees to rebuilt on epel7 then ping me and I'll make a rebuild.

Comment 9 milranmike 2022-10-27 08:32:38 UTC
I see. Thank you for your information.

Comment 10 Jered Floyd 2022-10-27 13:03:00 UTC
I was able to get this building on EL7 with spec file changes on my branch. You can diff against this if you'd like:

Comment 11 Marc Dequènes (Duck) 2022-10-28 07:55:26 UTC
@jered thanks a lot. I have no idea why they needed to use a separate source package but anyway that's great news.

I found out the package also comes with renamed/adapted macros and that's really handy.

I just made a build and it is a success.

@milranmike enjoy!

@jered @duck Thank you for your help :)
