Description Michel Alexandre Salim 2006-11-09 19:31:03 UTC
Description of problem:
Sony VAIO laptops require the use of the sonypi kernel module for doing things
like setting screen brightness. This kernel module is packaged with the i686
kernel but not with the x86_64 kernel.

With Core 2 Duo laptops coming out, could the module be turned on in the x86_64
kernels as well?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.6.18-1.2798

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. On x86_64 machine, modprobe sonypi

Actual results:
Modprobe fails, module not found

Expected results:
Module loaded

Additional info:

Comment 1 Dave Jones 2006-11-09 23:24:01 UTC
the driver has been explicitly marked as not working on 64 bit.
When upstream changes this situation, I'll enable it.

Comment 2 Michel Alexandre Salim 2006-11-10 01:08:14 UTC
Uh yes. I just realized after enabling it that it does not work. I'll contact
the original developer.
