log dump from system-config-soundcard none

Description Ben Boeckel 2006-11-10 03:55:14 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.0.8) Gecko/20061107 Fedora/1.5.0.8-1.fc6 Firefox/1.5.0.8

Description of problem:
I have an nVidia Corporation CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller (rev a2) sound card. When I upgraded to FC6, and booted up for the first time after upgrades from FC5, the sound card driver did not work anymore. system-config-soundcard is not able to play any sound from it.

This appears on line 1469 of the log dump:
"Intel ICH: probe of 0000:00:04.0 failed with error -12"

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6, system-config-soundcard-2.0.3-2.fc6

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upgrade from FC5 to FC6
2. Upgraded all packages
3. Reboot
4. Sound card driver fails to load
5. Tried to get it detected with system-config-soundcard
6. Dumped logs

Comment 2 Ben Boeckel 2006-11-11 22:25:23 UTC
After a few reboots, I noticed a pattern as to when the sound card driver fails
to load. If the last OS running was FC6, then the sound driver loads fine, but
if XP SP2 Pro was last used, the driver fails to load. Could XP leave the sound
card in an unexpected state such that FC6 doesn't recognize it?

Comment 3 Martin Stransky 2006-11-13 12:44:39 UTC
Yes, this is possible. Please report this problem to ALSA project
(www.alsa-project.org), they're authors of sound system which is used in linux.
And attach the log file there.

btw. This bug could be fixed in the new drivers (1.0.13), but they need some
fixes and don't compile with FC6 kernel yet.
