Description Akemi Yagi 2023-02-20 02:22:46 UTC
Description of problem:

Upstream commit a09b314005f3a0956ebf56e01b3b80339df577cc was backported to the RHEL 9.1 kernel.
  - block: freeze the queue earlier in del_gendisk (Ming Lei) [2094256]

However this has been reverted in upstream commit 4c66a326b5ab784cddd72de07ac5b6210e9e1b06.
Revert "block: freeze the queue earlier in del_gendisk"

Therefore it is requested that the revert commit be backported to RHEL. Problems caused by the original commit have been reported by users of Rocky Linux [1] and AlmaLinux [2].

For testing purposes I built RHEL 9.1 kernels with the revert commit applied [3]. Two users confirmed that the issue had been fixed with the patched kernel.

Comment 2 Akemi Yagi 2023-05-15 19:24:46 UTC
I see that the patch is now in the RHEL GA kernel 5.14.0-284.11.1.el9_2.

This ticket can be closed as resolved.
