This is related to: https://github.com/sphinx-doc/sphinx/issues/9832 The incompatibility is in sphinxcontrib-asyncio. Upstream issue: https://github.com/aio-libs/sphinxcontrib-asyncio/issues/15 I am reassigning this to python-sphinxcontrib-asyncio and will disable the documentation in python-asyncpg as a workaround. FEDORA-2023-80c68b58e3 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 39. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2023-80c68b58e3 FEDORA-2023-80c68b58e3 has been pushed to the Fedora 39 stable repository. python-asyncpg fails to build with Sphinx 6.1.3 in Fedora 39 (currently Rawhide). The issue detected: Exception occurred: File "/usr/lib/python3.11/site-packages/sphinx/domains/python.py", line 540, in handle_signature raise TypeError( TypeError: Python directive method get_signature_prefix() must return a list of nodes. Return value was 'coroutine '.
