This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for inclusion in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux major release. Product Management has requested further review of this request by Red Hat Engineering, for potential inclusion in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Major release. This request is not yet committed for inclusion. *** Bug 220252 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Looks more like a xen issue - obviously the microcode device doesn't exist when running under virt. So I need to handle that. This is a low impact, non-serious bug that simply results in an unnecessary error message (but it is noisy on boot). Jon. Created attachment 154406 [details]
suggested init script fix
This problem is also seen on some systems with latest RHEL5 (Kernel 2.6.18-8.1.3.el5xen), Domain0. This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for inclusion in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux maintenance release. Product Management has requested further review of this request by Red Hat Engineering, for potential inclusion in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Update release for currently deployed products. This request is not yet committed for inclusion in an Update release. Which solution are we thinking about going with? Fixing the kernel or just hacking the initscript? in 2.6.18-24.el5 You can download this test kernel from http://people.redhat.com/dzickus/el5 Changed to microcode_ctl, since this is really where this needed handling. Jon. An advisory has been issued which should help the problem described in this bug report. This report is therefore being closed with a resolution of ERRATA.
