Description Chris Burghart 2023-06-30 16:37:33 UTC
I cannot connect to a public wifi network with a 7-character password because the Gnome network connection GUI (gnome-control-center wifi) will not enable the "Connect" button unless I enter a password that is at least 8 characters long.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Execute "gnome-control-center wifi"
2. Select a wifi network
3. In the "Authentication required" dialog, enter any password from 1 to 7 characters long
Actual Results:
The "Connect" button on the dialog is never enabled

Expected Results:
The "Connect" button should be enabled as soon as *any* character is typed in the password line

I believe that the local system's criteria for a valid password (i.e., local PAM rules) are being enforced, even though the local system's rules have no bearing on what the external wifi connection may or may not accept.
