Sometimes the progress output doesn't correctly adapt to the console width and looks garbled.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
I cannot reproduce this manually. It seems to happen in docker builds (reproducible with podman). See e.g. this GitHub Actions workflow: https://github.com/Enchufa2/cran2copr/actions/runs/5572019730/jobs/10177631078

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 39 development cycle.
Changing version to 39.
