Description Jean-François Fortin Tam 2023-08-06 22:10:04 UTC
It seems the mimic package version in Fedora is very old, version 1.3 from 2020?

At the end of 2022, Mimic 3 was released here: https://github.com/MycroftAI/mimic3

...and the resulting output speech is an _order of magnitude_ better and more realistic than anything Mimic 1 and Mimic 2 ever achieved.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
$ mimic "This should not sound like a robotic voice." | aplay
Actual Results:
TTS that doesn't sound that much better than eSpeak

Expected Results:
TTS that sounds as good as Big Tech's proprietary TTS

Secondary demo here that tries to humorously compare Mimic 3 to Mimic 1 and 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWw9LKSfAq0
