Often when I move the mouse into an Evolution window, the mouse pointer is not the standard "arrow" pointer, but rather the "edge resize" pointer (the one that looks like an arrow pointing to a vertical bar).  If I move the mouse into the window from the right, the pointer is the "right edge resize" pointer, and if I move the mouse into the window from the left, the pointer is the "left edge resize" pointer.

This occurs about half the time.

The mouse pointer will change shape to the insertion bar when I hover over text, but hovering over any object that would normally use an "arrow" pointer returns the shape to the "edge resize" shape.

If I move the mouse pointer up to the titlebar, it regains it's normal "arrow" shape.

This can occur not only with the main Evolution window but also dialog boxes (like "Preferences") and the Compose Message window.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Move the mouse into an Evolution window

Actual Results:  
The pointer is the incorrect shape

Expected Results:  
The pointer should be the correct shape

Thanks for a bug report. Evolution itself does not influence the cursor, it's more about gtk+ and maybe the desktop environment. I tried it under GNOME Shell with Wayland using

   evolution-3.48.4-1.fc38.x86_64
   gtk3-3.24.38-1.fc38.x86_64
   gnome-shell-44.3-1.fc38.x86_64

and I do not see it here.

I'm moving this to gtk3 for further investigation.

I'm running X11.  Interestingly, I'm unable to reproduce the issue since my latest system update on 14-Aug, although neither evolution, gtk3, nor gnome-shell was upgraded (gtk4 was upgraded, but I don't know if that's significant).  I'll put this NEEDINFO on me and if the issue doesn't resurface, I'll close the Bug.

Issue seems to have resolved itself after system update on 14-Aug.  Closing...
