Just booted up and into LightDM. Mouse cursor was frozen as was keyboard. The light was blinking in the password window but I could not access it in any way. Pressing ESC and CTRL-ALT-DEL did nothing. Rebooted by holding down power button for five seconds and everything booted up fine. Next test: I switched back to GDM then enabled automatic boot to desktop to see whether bypassing the Display Manager would solve the problem. It did not. ON the first reboot, the Desktop appeared as expected (no login screen) but the cursor and keyboard were completely frozen. I may have found a solution. In the bios, my laptop's primary boot display was set to VGA Analog even though I always boot to the Thinkpad display (LCD) without a connected external display. I changed the setting several days ago to Thinkpad LCD. So far, after numerous boots, the frozen screen on boot has not been observed. Will keep you posted. I'm going to mark this as closed at this point. Since I changed the Bios to boot to Thinkpad LCD, I've only had a couple of frozen screens on bootup. The problem may be my hardware. If this problem recurs, I'll file another bug report. |
