Description fedrock 2023-09-12 03:32:07 UTC
Description of problem:
Duplex printing on a DCP7065DN printer always flips on the short edge. This is a problem only with relatively recent versions of printer-driver-brlaser. Specifically, everything works fine with printer-driver-brlaser-6.2-1.el8.x86_64.rpm
Every update I have applied since then caused the problem.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 6.2.6-1.el8.x86_64

How reproducible: Easy

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use any printing application, such as lp and lpr, that allows specifying duplex printing
2. Specify flipping the page on the long edge (the standard with portrait mode).
3.

Actual results:

Expected results: Pages are flipped along the short edge (the standard with landscape mode).

Yeah, I can confirm what you wrote. I discovered that this is the commit that breaks the behavior: https://github.com/Owl-Maintain/brlaser/commit/4eed83316657ee356e610d31dd266dc29e7a6bb2

Sadly, if I revert the patch, I can only get flipping on the long edge (even when I select flip on the short edge). It seems to me that Tumble is always set to one value.

Do you want to create an issues on GitHub to get more people involved? I'm afraid I'm unable to fix this.

Comment 2 fedrock 2023-10-10 00:10:23 UTC
How do I "create an issues on GitHub"?

I thought that here was the place to file bug reports.
It is clearly possible for some variation of this code to work since printer-driver-brlaser-6.2-1.el8.x86_64.rpm works...

Greetings,

This appears to have been fixed upstream: https://github.com/Owl-Maintain/brlaser/releases/tag/v6.2.7

I've tested a manual build and install of 6.2.7 on Fedora 41, and can confirm it handles duplexing as expected.
