.Enhanced ordered bucket listing Previously, in some cases, buckets with larger number of shards and several pseudo-subdirectories would take an unnecessarily long time to complete. With this enhancement, such buckets perform an ordered bucket listing more quickly.

Description nravinas 2023-09-18 11:31:52 UTC
Description of problem:

Slower bucket listing in RHCS buckets after resharding, compared to RHCS 4:

- RHCS 4: 11 shards, bucket with 4.1M objects - listing takes 5 seconds.
- RHCS 5: 97 shards, bucket with 3.8M objects - listing takes 20 seconds.

The bucket contents are very similar between both Ceph versions, as the bucket in RHCS 5 was initially migrated from the cluster running RHCS 4. The RHCS 5 cluster runs on servers with more memory, CPU, and networking resources, so the hardware configuration doesn't explain this difference.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

RHCS 5.3z1

How reproducible:

At the customer's site.

Actual results:

Bucket listing is slower in RHCS 5 than in RHCS 4 after resharding.

Expected results:

Bucket listing should be faster in RHCS 5.
