Sorry I forgot to mention my system specs: AMD Ryzen™ 7 3700X AMD Radeon™ RX 5700 XT MSI X570-A PRO (MS-7C37) motherboard Thanks I tested the latest rawhide Kernel (6.6.0-0.rc3) per the recommendation and it is having the same problem. Reboots itself right after grub selection. Rolled back to 6.4.15. thx For clarity, I should also add that I havent had hardware problems in the past and everything has been working great with previous kernels. Thx I disabled the 'quiet' kernel line option in grub to try and get more info and this is the last i see before it freezes for about 20 secs then reboots. I don't see any obvious errors, it just stops then reboots. I realize this may not be helpful at all but I'm just putting it out there just in case. See second attached picture thx. grub noquiet
In my troubleshooting I removed as many peripheral devices as I could and it ended up being a firewire PCIe addon card that was the culprit. Once removed, the kernel boots and works fine. The card is a VIA 'VT6308P' (PCIe Firewire 400 Card,IEEE 1394a). So I'm not sure if there was a driver update or why this is a problem all of the sudden since it has been working fine in previous kernels. I don't need the card anymore so I will just close out the ticket. |
Created attachment 1990818 [details] picture of the boot error After updating to the latest kernel 6.5.5-200, the system will not boot. I get a few errors and the system reboots itself. 2. What is the Version-Release number of the kernel:6.5.5-200 3. Everything has worked fine with previous kernels and I have fallen back to 6.4.15-200 for now. 4. This error and automatic reboot occur every single time I try and boot from 6.5.5 5. Does this problem occur with the latest Rawhide kernel? Have not tried yet but I will. 6. Are you running any modules that not shipped with directly Fedora's kernel?: No 7. Please attach the kernel logs. I don't think it's getting far enough into the boot process to even log anything. Ill attach the picture i took with my phone.
