This is an early notice about Python 3.13 which will be the main Python
in Fedora 41+ (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Python3.13).

We detected that python-mglob build requires /usr/bin/2to3 which will be removed from Python 3.13.

Python-maint has already started testing Fedora packages with Python 3.13 alphas.
We'll appreciate unblocking python-mglob as soon as possible to enable smooth integration.

Possible solutions to this issue:
- (preferred) port your package to Python 3 upstream
- patch the source code of the package using 2to3 and add the patch to dist git
2to3 is still present in Fedora 37, 38, 39, 40.

Nothing seems to (build)require python3-mglob, the latest upstream release is from 2007, and the homepage on PyPI goes to error 404.

When attempting to pip-install it, the package fails on Python 3 (due to SyntaxErrors).


I suggest orphaning this package.

The last upstream release was over 16 years ago, and the primary maintainer in Fedora last touched it 12 years ago. If the primary maintainer doesn’t show up to fix this, I don’t think anyone else should.

(I’m clearing the NEEDINFO and reassigning to the primary maintainer because the python-packagers-sig is the default assignee, and I don’t think we need to be reminded about this package.)
