Description pgnd 2023-12-25 13:40:03 UTC
CustomShortcuts for a11y users' support via khotkeys/kglobalaccel available under X11 in F39 will (currently) disappear with the impending switch to wayland-only F40

i've filed this bug upstream,

Global shortcuts that send keystrokes/characters to the focused window
  https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478219

the problem with that @ upstream is that wayland support in kde '6' is a new-default, but X11 is still an option.
so, they consider it a 'wishlist' item; and not a priority

for f40, kde6 X11 support (iiuc) goes away -- it's a wayland-only solution going forward
complete loss of this kcm_keys functionality from f39->f40 is, in effect, a regression -- there's no curently available option for users

Reproducible: Always

Setting to the correct component and linking with upstream bug.

@

 https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Wayland_Known_Significant_Issues
"... "Errata/Known issues" that are specific to the the Plasma Wayland session: significant quality-of-life annoyances, ..."

this issue isn't listed under "Accessibility", or any other afaict.

i'd guess -- lacking any further reponse @ upstream bug as yet -- that it's (still) not considered 'Significant', for reasons above etc.

that's an upstream judgement call.
what's done _here_, is as well.

It's on the page now.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 40 development cycle.
Changing version to 40.

Comment 5 Neal Gompa 2024-02-18 12:13:19 UTC
This is not fixed and is intended to be fixed upstream.
