Description Sahil Bhasin 2023-12-29 09:38:22 UTC
Description of problem:

1. Proposed title of this feature request.

To introduce an option to apply selected errata via Ansible

2. What is the nature and description of the request?

To add an option to apply the selected errata via ansible in the below path:
Satellite WebUI --> Hosts --> Content Hosts --> Client.example.com --> Errata --> Select errata --> Apply via ansible.

3. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)

Current Behaviour:

As of now, there is no option to select Apply via ansible. The only available options are Apply via remote execution or Apply via customized remote execution.

If we select apply via customized remote execution and we change the job category such as Katello via Ansible and Job Template as "Install Errata - Katelli Ansible Default" then under the errata details the selected errata ID is not visible.

Similarly, if the same thing happens while using the legacy form then under "Errata search query" Errata ID is present but the selected host is missing. So to avoid this if we get directly an option to Apply via ansible it will be more convenient for customers to apply the selected errata host-wise.

4. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)

To add an option to apply the selected errata via ansible in the below path:
Satellite WebUI --> Hosts --> Content Hosts --> Client.example.com --> Errata --> Select errata --> Apply via ansible.

5. For each functional requirement listed, specify how Red Hat and the customer
can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.

We should be able to apply the selected errata via ansible from the below path:
Satellite WebUI --> Hosts --> Content Hosts --> Client.example.com --> Errata --> Select errata --> Apply via ansible.

6. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat Bugzilla?

No.

The content hosts part of the UI is considered legacy. Everything will soon go through the actual Host details page.

That said, we do have support for running customized remote execution jobs using the "Katello via Ansible" job category.

There is a BZ relating to this though: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2256136

Sahil, do you have any thoughts on marking this BZ as a duplicate of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2256136 ?

In https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2256136 we added Ansible default job templates for the web UI. I think the solution there will also cover this RFE.
