Description Fedora Fails To Install 2024-02-08 13:29:17 UTC
Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically by https://pagure.io/releng/blob/main/f/scripts/ftbfs-fti/follow-policy.py
If you feel that this output has mistakes, please open an issue at https://pagure.io/releng/

Your package (python-pynn) Fails To Install in Fedora 40:

can't install python3-pynn:
  - nothing provides libnestkernel.so.3()(64bit) needed by python3-pynn-0.11.0-3.fc40.x86_64
  - nothing provides libnestutil.so.3()(64bit) needed by python3-pynn-0.11.0-3.fc40.x86_64

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.

If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.

P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors. To reproduce, use the koji/local repo only, e.g. in mock:

    $ mock -r fedora-40-x86_64 --config-opts mirrored=False install python3-pynn

P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages

Thanks!

Needs to be re-built for the nest update.

That was me pushing nest. I'll take care of it. Needs to be done for F39 and F38 as well. Those are currently in testing.

Hmm. Is nest known to be volatile? I first thought this was some kind of soname bump, I'd missed. But it turns out the updated nest package in rawhide no longer provides `libnestkernel.so.3()(64bit)` and `libnestutil.so.3()(64bit)`:

fedrq pkgs -F provides nest
nest = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-common = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-devel = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-doc = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-mpich = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-mpich-common = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-mpich-devel = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-openmpi = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-openmpi-common = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-openmpi-devel = 3.6-8.fc40
python3-nest = 3.6-8.fc40
python3-nest-mpich = 3.6-8.fc40
python3-nest-openmpi = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-debuginfo = 3.6-8.fc40
nest-debugsource = 3.6-8.fc40
libsli.so.3()(64bit)
libnest.so.3()(64bit)
libsli_readline.so.3()(64bit)
nest = 3.6-8.fc40
nest(x86-64) = 3.6-8.fc40

Adding insult to injury, python-pynn fails to build against the updated nest. :-\

I just saw there's an update available for PyNN, version 0.12.1. I'll try updating and take it from there. I might pull the F39 and F38 updates of NEST if I run into any bumps.

Comment 4 Ankur Sinha (FranciscoD) 2024-02-08 15:23:21 UTC
Yeh, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2241443 is still unresolved. It'll need looking into the nest sources. I think it's just a case of not using the namespace, but I haven't had a chance to debug it properly yet. I've got a WIP PR here:

https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-pynn/pull-request/4

Comment 5 Sandro 2024-02-08 15:35:41 UTC
I totally missed PyNN being dependent on NEST when I merged the PR updating NEST. Sorry about that.

At least I can base my work on the open PR for PyNN. And for once, introducing forge macros, will not be attributed to me. ;-P
