I tested with current rawhide (Fedora Development) and I am having trouble getting the pinentry gui to appear. I installed gnupg2 and pinentry-gtk. Made a gpg key with gpg --gen-key. When I run "eval `gpg-agent -s --daemon`" in a bash shell and then "gpg -sb" it just prompts me for the passphrase in the shell. How do I get the pinentry window to appear? To use pinentry-gtk as your default pinentry application, do following: -- begin dump -- [root@chatteau ~]# alternatives --config pinentry There are 3 programs which provide 'pinentry'. Selection Command ----------------------------------------------- + 1 /usr/bin/pinentry-curses 2 /usr/bin/pinentry-qt * 3 /usr/bin/pinentry-gtk Enter to keep the current selection[+], or type selection number: 3 -- end dump -- Hope this helps. It is already configured to pinentry-gtk for me. You also need to have 'use-agent' in ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf . Hope this helps. Thanks, got it working with that. Ok, reproduced with scim-bridge-0.4.9 and current cvs. However I can't get it to work with scim either. Created attachment 148664 [details]
diff to patch /etc/kde/env/gpg-agent-startup.sh
A workaround is to patch '/etc/kde/env/gpg-agent-startup.sh' .
I found some code in pinenthy, it uses input method for password inputting. I am not sure if we have requirement that we need input some special characters via input methods for password. If not, I suggest disabling those code. BTW, users can not use input method for password in Windows. Fedora apologizes that these issues have not been resolved yet. We're sorry it's taken so long for your bug to be properly triaged and acted on. We appreciate the time you took to report this issue and want to make sure no important bugs slip through the cracks. If you're currently running a version of Fedora Core between 1 and 6, please note that Fedora no longer maintains these releases. We strongly encourage you to upgrade to a current Fedora release. In order to refocus our efforts as a project we are flagging all of the open bugs for releases which are no longer maintained and closing them. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/LifeCycle/EOL If this bug is still open against Fedora Core 1 through 6, thirty days from now, it will be closed 'WONTFIX'. If you can reporduce this bug in the latest Fedora version, please change to the respective version. If you are unable to do this, please add a comment to this bug requesting the change. Thanks for your help, and we apologize again that we haven't handled these issues to this point. The process we are following is outlined here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/F9CleanUp We will be following the process here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping to ensure this doesn't happen again. And if you'd like to join the bug triage team to help make things better, check out http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers Does this still happen? I am still to input the pass phrase with pre-F9 rawhide. Changing version to '9' as part of upcoming Fedora 9 GA. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping Anyone ping upstream here yet? If not, I can do it, eventually-ish. requested by Jens Petersen (#27995) This message is a reminder that Fedora 9 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 9. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '9'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 9's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 9 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping (In reply to comment #13) > Anyone ping upstream here yet? If not, I can do it, eventually-ish. Rex: please do. I guess no change on this yet? No, but I've been working a bit on the gpg stack a bit over the past couple of days, will do. Here's seme relevant links: scim and pinentry-gtk2 : http://lists.gnupg.org/pipermail/gnupg-devel/2008-April/024326.html Cannot input anything under "pinentry-gtk-2"? : https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=330073 It would appear that upstream is indeed aware of the issue. I tested the steps in comment 4 and comment 1 with F11 and ibus and it works fine for me, so moving this to F10. Looks like upstream has worked to make this better, http://lists.gnupg.org/pipermail/gnupg-devel/2009-July/025222.html Just did a new F-11 build of the latest release, including the input-method-related fixes: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=130703 (only after re-reading that apparently F-11 is not as bad off here. :( ).
