Description Andrew Wang 2024-06-23 17:48:00 UTC
After an update, Plasma immediately crashed with several color blink, trigger lots of segfault warning of kwin-wayland in dmesg.

GNOME with Wayland also crashed, although I was able to login, it crashed when I try to open ANY window. Switch to Xorg immediately fix this.

It seems like there are already lots of report about this, see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475490

Wayland is just a protocol specification in XML and the low-level C library that deals with the protocol.

This issue here is a bug not with the protocol itself but with either your compositor or desktop environment's implementation of the Wayland protocol and surrounding functionality.

In other words, that's a KDE issue or NVIDIA (do you use the NVIDIA driver? because the bug you linked points toward the NVIDIA driver), but this is not Wayland.

Can you please attach the journalctl (compressed) of a failed session?

Comment 4 Olivier Fourdan 2024-06-24 07:46:38 UTC
Also, out of curiosity, does it help if you boot with an older kernel ?

Comment 5 Olivier Fourdan 2024-06-24 08:32:22 UTC
Humm, actually, the crash occurs in the Mesa DRI driver and Mesa is one of the packages updated.

Comment 6 Olivier Fourdan 2024-06-24 08:35:42 UTC
I think this is https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/11352 and a dupliucate of bug 2292321

Return to kernel-6.9.4-200 does not help.
