Description Gerd v. Egidy 2024-08-22 15:32:22 UTC
Description of problem:

Currently version 2.8.0 is published in EPEL 8 and 9. Upstream (and Fedora) is at version 2.8.2.

Please consider updating EPEL to 2.8.2.

There is one feature that I'm missing in 2.8.0 and that is the SHUTDOWNEXIT option to upsmon. Without it, a secondary can only notify the primary that it has begun to shutdown. With the SHUTDOWNEXIT it can wait until it is nearly done with shutdown. This can make a significant difference for example on virtual machine hosts or database servers where shutdown can take several minutes.

I recompiled the version nut-2.8.2-1.fc40 from Fedora on RHEL 9 and x86_64 and did some testing with it.

It worked without issues as a secondary as well as a primary (usbhid-ups). I did testing with programmed shutdown ("upsmon -c fsd") as well as disconnecting mains supply and waiting for the battery to go below the threshold. Some other secondaries where also connected and they powered off correctly too.

So to me it looks like upgrading EPEL 9 to 2.8.2 should work and not require additional patches or other modifications.
