secp256k1] warning: libsecp256k1 library failed to load
[secp256k1] warning: loading from /usr/lib/python3.13/site-packages/electroncash/libsecp256k1.so.0 failed with: <class 'OSError'>

The application would start

Additional info:
Updated my Fedora desktop today. After that the application no longer works. Was working before.

Comment 1 Jonny Heggheim 2025-02-15 21:32:22 UTC
This is a fallout from the bug 2263906. I will look into packaging the version of libsecp256k1 that is required by Electron Cash.

Comment 2 Jonny Heggheim 2025-02-19 19:28:12 UTC
Added a new package review for bug 2346266 that Electron Cash will depend on

Comment 3 Jonny Heggheim 2025-02-19 19:37:52 UTC
While waiting for the libsecp256k1-abc to be reviewed, this COPR can be used https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/jonny/BitcoinCash/

Comment 4 Colin Macdonald 2025-02-22 19:18:27 UTC
I'm not sure libsecp256k1-abc is the problem. I think the relevant error that OP reported is:

Error: could not find paymentrequest_pb2.py. Create it with 'protoc --proto_path=electroncash/ --python_out=electroncash/ electroncash/paymentrequest.proto'

I tried electron-cash from COPR and I don't get the libsecp256k1 warning but it still failed with that protoc error.

I think rather it is something about `protobuf`:

Downgrading to 4.4.1 seems to work:

```
# dnf downgrade electron-cash
Package                                       Arch        Version                                        Repository                    Size
Downgrading:
 electron-cash                                noarch      4.4.1-3.fc41                                   fedora                    17.4 MiB
   replacing electron-cash                    noarch      4.4.2-1.fc41                                   updates                   17.3 MiB
```

You are correct, I was too quick to conclude, will check out if it helps by running the protoc during %build.
