Description Fedora Fails To Install 2025-01-28 12:28:52 UTC
Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically by https://pagure.io/releng/blob/main/f/scripts/ftbfs-fti/follow-policy.py
If you feel that this output has mistakes, please open an issue at https://pagure.io/releng/

Your package (xiphos) Fails To Install in Fedora 42:

can't install xiphos:
  - nothing provides libgtkhtml-4.0.so.0()(64bit) needed by xiphos-4.2.1-27.fc42.x86_64
  - nothing provides libgtkhtml-editor-4.0.so.0()(64bit) needed by xiphos-4.2.1-27.fc42.x86_64

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.

If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.

P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors. To reproduce, use the koji/local repo only, e.g. in mock:

    $ mock -r fedora-42-x86_64 --config-opts mirrored=False install xiphos

P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages

Thanks!

I guess the editor component will have to be disabled. I don't feel like trying to make libgtkhtml limp along any more than it already has, it's been retired and the package is legitimately ancient. Debian and Ubuntu already ship Xiphos like this.

Indeed. They also already have a patch that disables (but doesn't remove the UI button for) the editor. It probably can be inhaled whole into the Fedora package, as well, if there isn't a config switch for disabling. As I'm not running an RPM based distro anymore, do you want to take on making the needful changes?

Comment 3 Aaron Rainbolt 2025-01-29 23:11:29 UTC
Already on it, and yeah I'm just inheriting the whole patch. That being said, Fedora seems to still have webkit2, so it *might* be an option to switch to the WebKit editor? Will investigate.

Comment 4 Aaron Rainbolt 2025-01-30 00:05:29 UTC
I did have to patch the editor out. On the bright side, it worked just fine, as tested on a Fedora Rawhide VM. I pushed the change to Git, but I'm not able to build it and push out the update yet because Fedora's infra is unstable at the moment. I'll try to get the last few steps done tomorrow.

All subpackages of a package against which this bug was filled are now installable or removed from Fedora 42.

Thanks for taking care of it!
