Description Philip Sherman 2025-03-08 06:55:35 UTC
Attempting to upgrade installed skychart-4.2.1 using: dnf upgrade skychart

Fedora repository has upgraded packages with x86-64 version identification:
  skychart-4.3^20240205.svn4719-3.fc41
  skychart-catgen-4.3^20240205.svn4719-3.fc41

Other RPM versions available on the web for other operating system environments have version identifications similar to:
  skychart-4.3-0.4903.1
Versions have small variances in the 4903 part depending on the target linux system.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. dnf upgrade skychart
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Listed information about the upgraded package contains the weird version information

Expected Results:
I aborted the upgrade

Is the version identification of the RPM in the Fedora repository correct?

Yes, this is the new versioning schema Fedora packaging guidelines describe at https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/Versioning/#_complex_versioning_with_a_pre_and_post_release_snapshots
The snapshot info part is moved into the Version field, while other web resources may still have that part in the Release field.

BTW, I will look at upgrading the package to the latest svn version soon.
