Comment 1 Chuck Ebbert 2007-04-09 19:25:00 UTC
error -71 is "protocol error" according to errno.h

Comment 2 Pete Zaitcev 2007-04-09 19:38:56 UTC
Forget errno.h. The error codes are in Documentation/usb/error-codes.txt.
The early and persistent -71 is usually a bad port or a cable (less likely
with real Apple cables, but possible). Sometimes reflashing the iPod
fixes it too (I had a buddy with a 4G where it was the case - Apple
shipped an update).

Comment 3 Chuck Ebbert 2007-04-09 19:49:24 UTC
Could this be the infamous "device draws too much power" problem?

Thorsten, did this iPod ever work on any kernel version?
What model is it, and is the firmware up-to-date?

Comment 4 Thorsten Scherf 2007-04-11 20:49:25 UTC
The ipod is working from time to time but had I absolutely no problems with it
in the past. with the latest fc6 kernels I have more and more problems with the
device. I'm using rockbox instead of the orginal apple firmware and of course I
already tried a different set of usb-cables.

btw, talking about a 4G 1st generation ipod.

any other idea what the problem could be?

(This is a mass-update to all current FC6 kernel bugs in NEW state)

Hello,

I'm reviewing this bug list as part of the kernel bug triage project, an attempt
to isolate current bugs in the Fedora kernel.

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/KernelBugTriage

I am CC'ing myself to this bug, however this version of Fedora is no longer
maintained.

Please attempt to reproduce this bug with a current version of Fedora (presently
Fedora 8). If the bug no longer exists, please close the bug or I'll do so in a
few days if there is no further information lodged.

Thanks for using Fedora!

Comment 7 Jon Stanley 2008-02-08 04:24:43 UTC
