Description Daniel Rusek 2025-03-28 23:22:07 UTC
The Background Logo extension does not display on Fedora 42 beta with GNOME 48 and needs to be updated for GNOME 48.

This should be fixed before the Fedora 42 Final since the Fedora logo is an important part of the Fedora branding and out-of-box experience.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot Fedora 42 beta iso.
2. Look into the bottom right corner.

Actual Results:
There's no Fedora branding logo displayed.

Expected Results:
There's a Fedora branding logo displayed.

Comment 1 Fedora Blocker Bugs Application 2025-03-28 23:26:20 UTC
Proposed as a Blocker and Freeze Exception for 42-final by Fedora user asciiwolf using the blocker tracking app because:

The Fedora desktop background logo is not displayed on Fedora 42 beta with GNOME 48 and needs to be updated for GNOME 48.

This should be fixed before the Fedora 42 Final since the Fedora logo is an important (and well known) part of the Fedora branding and out-of-box experience - and has been for many years.

(It is preinstalled and enabled by default; the fact that it does not work is a regression.)

Comment 2 Daniel Rusek 2025-03-28 23:34:08 UTC
It looks like the GNOME 48 update is already in the extension git, but not in the package git:

Comment 3 Violet Stone 2025-03-30 09:43:33 UTC
I'd rather just get rid of the extension entirely tbh

Comment 4 Daniel Rusek 2025-03-30 10:14:39 UTC
This could be a good thing to consider for the upcoming Fedora releases, but I am afraid it is already too late for F42. The extension is still there preinstalled and it is still a part of the Fedora Workstation/Silverblue visual identity.

-4 blocker / +6 FE in https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/blocker-review/issue/1815 , marking accepted FE, rejected blocker.
