Description Émile Brunelle 2025-05-02 17:07:51 UTC
One of the dependency for `iceatea-web` cannot be resolved. It requires `java-17-openjdk`, which does not exist for Fedora 42. It used to work on Fedora 41.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter the command: sudo dnf install icedtea-web
Actual Results:
No provider for java-17-openjdk, necessary for installing icedtea-web-1.8.8-6.fc41.x86_64.

Expected Results:
Should be able to install with no conflict.

Additional Information:
Here's the full output. Keep in mind that my computer is in French.

I will try to make icedtea-web available for Fedora 42 (and RHEL 10) soon. Unfortunately, the icedtea-web code is aging while ongoing Java development removes old relicts and compatibilities, thus this is highly likely to break in the future again. The best option for the future is indeed to avoid all software requiring this ancient Java web start technology, because the software itself is already likely ancient, dead or similar bad. Having or using icedtea-web is actually riding a dead horse.

Thank you for looking into it! Sadly I still have to rely on icedtea-web for the time being since my university still requires us to use an old program for selecting our courses that runs on Java Web Start.

In the meantime, for those with the same issue, I've been using a Toolbox Fedora 41 container and it worked fine.
