Description of problem:
lbzip2 is not currently available in EPEL9. This package is a fast, multi-threaded implementation of bzip2 and can be beneficial for performance-oriented environments.

Not packaged in epel9 yet

How reproducible:
Consistently reproducible – package is missing from EPEL9 repos

Steps to Reproduce:
1. dnf install lbzip2 (on AlmaLinux 9 / RHEL 9)
2. → No package available

I have prepared and tested working RPM packages of lbzip2 for AlmaLinux 9, based on Fedora sources, and ensured compatibility with EPEL packaging policies. You can find the SRPM and SPEC files here:

These are built without Fedora-specific macros and tested on AlmaLinux 9 environments.

Please consider adding lbzip2 to EPEL9 or sponsoring the submission.

The package lbzip2 is currently maintained in Fedora and widely used for high-performance compression.

We have built and tested it successfully for EPEL9 (AlmaLinux 9), and confirmed compatibility with RHEL-based environments.  
Please consider branching it to epel9.

This is a new submission for lbzip2, a parallel implementation of bzip2 compression.  
The package was built for AlmaLinux 9 and tested successfully in EL9 environments.  
It is based on Fedora packaging but modified to comply with EPEL guidelines.

This submission aims to provide a high-performance bzip2 alternative for EPEL9 systems.

There are no known active CVEs related to lbzip2 as of June 2025.

The software is designed for local file compression and does not involve any networking or privilege escalation.  
It has been tested and used in production in AlmaLinux 9 environments.

I am willing to maintain this package within EPEL if accepted.
