Description Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski 2025-07-08 23:58:44 UTC
Description of problem:
miniz.pc file is not included in miniz-devel subpackage (https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/miniz/blob/rawhide/f/miniz.spec#_129) despite upstream providing one (https://github.com/richgel999/miniz/blob/master/miniz.pc.in).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
miniz-3.0.2-7.fc42

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. dnf install miniz-devel
2. pkg-config --path miniz

Actual results:
Package miniz was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `miniz.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'miniz' not found

Expected results:
/usr/lib64/pkgconfig/miniz.pc

Additional info:
It looks like upstream has a working CMake and meson build systems now, though meson-based one doesn't install the pkgconfig file.

Hi Dominik, are you actively using miniz? If so, perhaps you'd like to co-maintain the package? My only interest in it is as a dependency of perl-Sereal.

I'm in the same position. It's a bundled dependency of one of my packages,
ags. So I don't really need it, just want it unbundled to follow the rules.
But sure, I'd be happy to co-maintain. You can add me (rathann) to the package.

Looks like there are two more consumers of miniz: Pencil2D and tinyexr.

Done, thanks.

Comment 4 Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski 2025-07-20 11:02:53 UTC
PR submitted. Ok to merge?

Comment 5 Paul Howarth 2025-07-22 07:39:36 UTC
Go ahead and merge. I'm not a fan of autosetup personally as I find it makes managing downstream patches harder, but there are no patches here.

No problem, I will leave %setup in place.
