The same for an IBM ThinkPad T23. Using the VESA framebuffer does not bring any improvement either. In general, after switching more than once to a VT1 and back, then switching to VT1 leaves one with a monitor going to standby mode. At this point, it also impossible to switch back to VT7. At least, ctrl-alt-del allows to reboot the machine gracefully. However, I do not see a regression. Savage VT switching has always been like that for me. Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue. Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf whatsoever and let X11 autodetect your display and video card? Attach to this bug /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt as well, please. We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information. Thanks in advance. X server logfile without xorg.conf (fails to start!)
X server fails to start without xorg.conf on my system, because it selects
framebuffer device instead of the savage device.

X server logfile with xorg.conf and VT switch
Sorry, late at night, forgot to also attach a X server log with an VT switch
that shows the problem. I don't see any error/problem messages there though...
Just updated to F8: problem is gone. xorg-x11-drv-savage-2.1.3-1.fc8 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.3.0.0-33.fc8 FYI: Was probably fixed by this commit included in 2.1.3 release: <http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/driver/xf86-video-savage.git;a=commit;h=7832dcd82046238d5accb55468c65241f0edc6d0> |
