Description of problem:

Audio doesn't work.

I installed F7t4.  It detected my audio chip just fine and configured the
snd_hda_intel module.  But sound just doesn't work.  When I try to play a sound
I get:

aplay /usr/share/system-config-soundcard/sound-sample.wav
ALSA lib pcm_direct.c:867:(snd_pcm_direct_initialize_slave)
snd_pcm_hw_params_any failed
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:876:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to initialize slave
aplay: main:545: audio open error: Invalid argument

If I try to play via a specific audio controller I get a similar (but still
different) error message:

aplay -D hw:0 /usr/share/system-config-soundcard/sound-sample.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/system-config-soundcard/sound-sample.wav' : Signed 16
bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo
aplay: set_params:878: Broken configuration for this PCM: no configurations
available

How reproducible:

Happens every time.  According to some Ubuntu people it might be the order in
which modules are loaded, but I can't tell for sure.  I can't seem to unload the
intel sound module.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install F7t4
2. Try to play a sound
3. notice nothing happens (or it pops up an error dialog)

Aha, not a software issue, but a BIOS issue.  I got a clue from
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/AD1981HD -- apparently the audio device doesn't
work properly if you disable/hide the modem, which I did.  I went into the BIOS,
re-enabled the modem, and now audio works again.

So, I'm closing this bug.

Sorry for the noise, but maybe you can ask other people with AD1981 chips if
they disabled their modem in the BIOS.
