This is caused undesirable packaging in the libvisual RPM.
libvisual is a dependency of gstreamer-plugins-base, and libvisual depends on SDL, which in turn pulls in GTK.
This was fixed in rawhide/f43 recently
commit f02be59c0d31d0daaafc9801d56e6a6f766f19d8
Author: Yaakov Selkowitz <yselkowi>
Date: Fri Jul 25 13:09:39 2025 -0400
Separate subpackage for tools
lv-tools has a dependency on sdl12-compat. Because libvisual is a
dependency of gstreamer1-plugins-base, this ends up pulling in the SDL
stack (sdl12-compat->sdl2-compat->SDL3) into many things where it is
otherwise unnecessary.
Thank you! For the record, it looks like this now on Fedora 44. I think this is a regression, as it now also pulls in llvm-libs. (For a 3D software renderer, maybe?) Gtk is gone, but all the rest is still there. I am not re-opening this since I want to extract myself from this problem. :-) root@localhost:~# dnf --setopt=install_weak_deps=False install qemu-char-spice Updating and loading repositories: Repositories loaded. Cockpit-machines plans to drop its "Recommends: qemu-char-spice" from Fedora 46 onward: https://github.com/cockpit-project/cockpit-machines/pull/2279 > For the record, it looks like this now on Fedora 44. This all looks normal to me, the chain is:
qemu-char-spice -> qemu-ui-spice-core -> qemu-ui-opengl -> libglvnd-glx -> mesa-libGL -> mesa-dir-drivers -> llvm-libs
IOW, since SPICE needs 3rd libs, the chain looks unavoidable.
