Description Lukas Ruzicka 2025-08-25 12:49:17 UTC
Currently there is a bug in vte that causes a Backspace key to behave wrongly in Vim (and possibly other applications, too) when it adds "^?" symbols instead of deleting the last character, see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/vte/-/issues/2897

Reproducible: Always

Comment 1 Fedora Blocker Bugs Application 2025-08-25 12:50:02 UTC
Proposed as a Freeze Exception for 43-beta by Fedora user lruzicka using the blocker tracking app because:

I believe that this should be fixed earlier that later.

Comment 3 Adam Williamson 2025-08-25 18:51:53 UTC
Update is stable - please confirm this is fixed in the next nightly. Thanks!

Comment 4 Lukas Ruzicka 2025-08-25 19:20:09 UTC
Discussed at the 2025-08-25 Blocker review meeting:

We grant a freeze exception to fix the broken backspace key problem, but not carte blanche for a version update for no reason. The fix for the bug should be minimal if landed during freeze. The new version may be an appropriate choice if the only changes between 0.81 and 0.81.90 are related, or reversions of unstable changes

Comment 5 Lukas Ruzicka 2025-09-01 08:57:39 UTC
This issue still persists in my system with version vte291-0.81.90-2.fc43.x86_64

Comment 6 Michael Catanzaro 2025-09-02 21:49:57 UTC
Yeah, unfortunately it's definitely not fixed by vte 0.81.90.

Comment 7 Christian Hergert 2025-09-02 22:04:20 UTC
This was fixed on Sunday in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/vte/-/commit/bb0e930f446812f4b15d97f1f26566006925f7ac which is also on the vte-0-82 branch.
