A reference leak flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Dell system management driver in the attribute duplicate detection logic. A local user on Dell systems can trigger this issue when the driver encounters duplicate sysfs attributes during initialization, causing a kobject reference to be acquired via kset_find_obj but never released. This results in a permanent reference leak that prevents proper cleanup and leads to resource exhaustion or denial of service.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2025-10-07 16:05:16 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

platform/x86: dell-sysman: Fix reference leak

If a duplicate attribute is found using kset_find_obj(),
a reference to that attribute is returned. This means
that we need to dispose it accordingly. Use kobject_put()
to dispose the duplicate attribute in such a case.

Compile-tested only.
