A flaw was found in the Linux kernel’s VMware graphics driver (drm/vmwgfx). During the validation process, nodes stored in a duplicates-hashtable come from an arena allocator, which is cleared at the end of vmw_execbuf_process. One node was not properly removed in vmw_validation_drop_ht because its associated resource was destroyed too early, leading to a use-after-free.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2025-11-12 02:01:14 UTC
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

drm/vmwgfx: Fix Use-after-free in validation

Nodes stored in the validation duplicates hashtable come from an arena
allocator that is cleared at the end of vmw_execbuf_process. All nodes
are expected to be cleared in vmw_validation_drop_ht but this node escaped
because its resource was destroyed prematurely.
