/var/log/messages entry for ipw2100 failure to connect to wpa secured network none

Description Steven Garrity 2007-05-31 20:02:33 UTC
Description of problem:
Just installed Fedora 7 on a ThinkPad T60 with the IPW3945 wireless card.

I've turned on NetworkManager, and can connect to open (unsecure networks) after
booting, but trying to connect to any secure networks fails (networks I was able
to connect to with FC6 this morning.

Also after trying to connect to a secure network, I can no longer connect to
even the open network I can connect to after booting.

Not sure what info will help - just ask and I'll do my best to provide it.

Comment 1 Matt Dinsmore 2007-05-31 21:05:03 UTC
I get this too, on a T40 with ipw2100.

I am thinking the big error is this : May 31 16:57:51 nitrogen
wpa_supplicant[8208]: Association request to the driver failed

This was working with FC6 fine.

Here are some logs :

Also getting this from dmesg, not sure if it's related, but it's during the NIC
startup phase...

Not using selinux, btw

IBM Thinkpad T40, same bug, same backtrace.

Also interesting maybe:

Comment 5 Herward Hoyer 2007-06-01 22:50:41 UTC
compiling and installing ipw2100.ko from ipw2100-1.2.2.tgz fixed the problems.

Comment 6 Stuart Martin 2007-06-05 06:57:38 UTC
I've had the exact same problem connecting to my WPA-Personal network on a IBM
ThinkPad T41 using the ipw2100 wireless adapter.

The simple fix for me was to just re-enable ipv6 on the interface. As soon as I
did this, it immediately worked on the next connection using NetworkManager.
I didn't have this problem in FC6 using the same 1.3 firmware, must be a bug in
the F7 driver.

I haven't tried this fix on the live cd but it had the same problem by default.

Hope this helps, Stoo

Created attachment 156180 [details]
/var/log/messages entry for ipw2100 failure to connect to wpa secured network

Sorry about the previous post, I jumped the gun in my excitement for thinking I
fixed the problem so easily.

What happened is after making the change to ipv6, the gnome keyring asked me to
create a password, something I was never able to get to previously. Appearently
it just fell back to some neighbor's open wireless network.

So still having the same issue, here's my log.

Comment 8 Stuart Martin 2007-06-05 08:00:06 UTC
Thanks Herward! Compiling and installing the ipw2100.ko fixed it for me as well.

Comment 9 John W. Linville 2007-06-05 11:47:06 UTC
Odd...perhaps Intel has neglected to send a patch upstream? I'll check into
it.

Comment 10 Harald Hoyer 2007-06-05 12:25:55 UTC
you may also check the http://ieee80211.sourceforge.net/ header files and please
include them in kernel-devel

Comment 11 John W. Linville 2007-06-05 12:32:32 UTC
Why would I do that?

Comment 12 John W. Linville 2007-07-30 19:33:11 UTC
Is this still a problem w/ current F7 kernels?

Comment 13 Steven Garrity 2007-07-30 19:38:58 UTC
Seems to be working with the .22 kernel updates. I think we can mark this as fixed?
