Description Peter Bieringer 2007-06-05 12:30:13 UTC
Description of problem:
After installation of a new bought NIC with Realtek 8168 chipset (PCIe) I
recognized, that this card was still not supported by kernel.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-2.6.9-55.EL

# strings /lib/modules/2.6.9-55.EL/kernel/drivers/net/r8169.ko |grep RTL8
RTL8169
RTL8169s/8110s

Current Fedora Core 6 kernel shows:
# strings /lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2952.fc6/kernel/drivers/net/r8169.ko | grep RTL8
RTL8169
RTL8169s/8110s
RTL8169sb/8110sb
RTL8169sc/8110sc
RTL8168b/8111b
RTL8101e
RTL8100e

Additional info:

I hope, on next kernel release the driver would be updated because it looks like
that at least here in Germany the only cheap PCIe NIC you can get is based on
this Realtek chipset.

lspci already know about:

03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI
Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01)
03:00.0 Class 0200: 10ec:8168 (rev 01)
