Description Fedora Release Engineering 2026-01-29 08:40:43 UTC
xvidcore failed to build from source in Fedora rawhide/f44

https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=141227280

For details on the mass rebuild see:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_44_Mass_Rebuild
Please fix xvidcore at your earliest convenience and set the bug's status to
ASSIGNED when you start fixing it. If the bug remains in NEW state for 8 weeks,
xvidcore will be orphaned. Before branching of Fedora 45,
xvidcore will be retired, if it still fails to build.

Comment 8 Nicolas Chauvet (kwizart) 2026-02-03 18:06:14 UTC
My take on this is that fixing ASM (here MMX,SSE2) to avoid texrel on old i686 doesn't worth it.
I would recommend to disable it when possible.

On the xvidcore case, this library isn't used on i686 except for ffmpeg* (and gpac).
Decoding can be done with internal mpeg4 codec, but libxvid is still a valid encoder there.

So I'm not sure who would still produce xvid from an i686 binary (using modern ffmpeg-libs) nowadays, so I'm even thinking about disabling xvid from ffmpeg on i686...

Comment 9 Fedora Update System 2026-02-03 19:32:16 UTC

If problem still persists, please make note of it in this bug report.

Correct.

We might do that when i686 repo gets trimmed to the minimum required to support
Steam and some old games.
