This requires changes in upstream gala and wingpanel to support Mutter 50.

Proposed as a Freeze Exception for 44-final by Fedora user decathorpe using the blocker tracking app because:

 The pending update that is associated with this bug fixes a FTBFS / FailsToInstall issue with GNOME / mutter v50 for the "gala" package. It would be nice to have a non-broken version in the GA repo instead of one that doesn't install due to broken dependencies.

Discussed at 2026-04-06 blocker/FE review meeting: https://meetbot-raw.fedoraproject.org//blocker-review_matrix_fedoraproject-org/2026-04-06/f44-blocker-review.2026-04-06-16.00.html . Accepted as a freeze exception, as we typically accept FTI bugs in order to improve the consistency of the frozen release repository and avoid problems for folks who upgrade during the Final freeze.
