Description Flags
set the monitor flag to on none

Description Saori Fukuta 2007-06-22 01:24:51 EDT
Description of problem:
We can not use the monitor of Qemu-dm that I want to use to change the
  CD-ROM at installation.

On current Xen, we need to set the monitor flag to ON when we want to use
  the monitor of Qemu-dm.
But the libvirt does not set that flag, so we can not use the monitor.

This is the help of xm:
    # xm create --help_config:
    > monitor=no|yes Should the device model use monitor?

And this is the example of setting the flag ON:
  (domain
      (image
          (hvm
              (kernel /usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader)
              (acpi 1)
              (apic 1)
              (boot d)
              (device_model /usr/lib/xen/bin/qemu-dm)
              (monitor 1) <--setting to ON
              ...snip...

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
  libvirt 0.2.3 (ChangeLog:revision 1.596)

  kernel-xen-2.6.20-2925.9.fc7
  xen-3.1.0-2.fc7
  kernel-xen-2.6.20-2925.11.fc7
  xen-libs-3.1.0-2.fc7

How reproducible:
  Always

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. install the guest of HVM domain using the virt-install or virt-manager
  2. hold the "[ctrl]+[alt]+[2]" down to use the monitor of Qemu-dm
     on the vncViewer

Actual results:
We can not use the monitor of Qemu-dm.

Expected results:
We can use the monitor of Qemu-dm.

Additional info:
I attached the patch that set the monitor flag to 1(ON) if the guest
domain is HVM and the xendConfigVersion is 4 or later.

In the future, I want to be able to select ON/OFF of the monitor in view
  of the security.

set the monitor flag to on
Comment 2 Daniel Berrange 2007-06-22 07:10:33 EDT
Turning on the monitor is a security hole. We will not add any option to
virt-manager to turn on security holes.

If you have specify actions you wish to be able to perform (eg changing the
CDROM media) please enter BZ tickets for each action, so we can be provide a
sensible secure implementation that does not involve the monitor
