Description of problem:
When building gdb from src.rpm on a ppc64 box with mixed ppc32/ppc64 
environment, the build gets architecture-confused and fails with messsages like:

/usr/bin/ld: warning: powerpc:common64 architecture of input file `version.o' 
is incompatible with powerpc:common output

/usr/src/redhat/BUILD/gdb-6.5/build-ppc64-redhat-linux-gnu/gdb/
gdbserver/../../../gdb/gdbserver/inferiors.c:109: relocation truncated to fit: 
R_PPC64_REL24 against `malloc'

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gdb-6.5-16.el5 and newer (errata candidates for 5.0.z and 5.1)

How reproducible:
always, when you have mixed ppc32/ppc64 environment 

Steps to Reproduce:
1. rpm -ihv gdb-6.5-16.el5.src.rpm
2. rpmbuild -ba /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/gdb.spec
3. kaboom
  
Actual results:
build fails

Expected results:
build succeeds

This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for inclusion in a Red
Hat Enterprise Linux maintenance release.  Product Management has requested
further review of this request by Red Hat Engineering, for potential
inclusion in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Update release for currently deployed
products.  This request is not yet committed for inclusion in an Update
release.
