Description Colin Macdonald 2026-06-09 22:34:17 UTC
In https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2026-255cbf0056 it was noted that an error is shown:

```
>>> Running %postun scriptlet: octave-symbolic-0:3.2.2-2.fc44.noarch
>>> Non-critical error in %postun scriptlet: octave-symbolic-0:3.2.2-2.fc44.noarch
>>> Scriptlet output:
>>> error: description is missing needed field maintainer
>>> error: called from
>>>     get_description at line 81 column 7
>>>     rebuild at line 66 column 7
>>>     pkg at line 707 column 9
>>>
>>> [RPM] %postun(octave-symbolic-3.2.2-2.fc44.noarch) scriptlet failed, exit status 1
```

That "descriptiuon is missing needed " messages comes from Octave's `pkg` command, but I don't think it generated by the Symbolic package (which has a `Maintainer` tag in its DESCRIPTION file). (I checked the source code of `pkg` and its case insensitive).

I don't know how to reproduce this so its hard for me to debug!

Reproducible: Always

Maybe @orion recognizes this warning message?

Yeah, maybe the NLopt thing:

```
dnf install octave-NLopt
```

And then after I have that installed, `dnf install octave-symbolic` also fails.

So I think this is something to fix in `octave-NLopt`...
