a patch for vi emulation crash none

Description Petr Sklenar 2007-07-26 10:58:34 UTC
Description of problem:
Xemacs crashes when activating VI emulation. Sometimes it crashes immediately
when activated. Sometimes "Vi emulation" has to be unactivated and then
activated again. If not crashed, try close xemacs and launch again.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

xemacs-21.4.15-11.EL4.i386

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:

Used vncserver and vncviewer.
1. xemacs
2. Push Option>Keyboard and mouse > VI emulation
3. Questions of Xemacs a) "Inhibit startup message" ... yes/no, b) "Level of
familiarity with emac" ... scale 1 to 5 , c) "made this change permanent" ... yes/no
## check whatever, it seems it doesn't matter, if u check positively question
"made it permanent" next time it would crash right away when "VI emulation" is
activated
4. Xemacs crashes, It writes "core dump" or "Segmentation fault"

Actual results:
Xemacs crashes when VI emulation is activated.

Expected results:
Activation of VI emulation

a patch for vi emulation crash

if we make assertions non-fatal, this crash is avoided and everything seems to work OK...

Comment 4 RHEL Program Management 2008-11-04 15:56:31 UTC
This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for
inclusion, but this component is not scheduled to be updated in
the current Red Hat Enterprise Linux release. If you would like
this request to be reviewed for the next minor release, ask your
support representative to set the next rhel-x.y flag to "?".

Comment 5 Daniel Novotny 2010-03-18 15:32:50 UTC
4.9 is the last regular update of RHEL4 and it should be minimal. Closing this
bug, as this works correctly in RHEL5.
