A flaw was found in Bouncy Castle for Java. The software's processing of OpenPGP user-attribute subpackets does not properly limit their length, bounding them only by the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) maximum memory. A remote attacker could exploit this by sending a specially crafted OpenPGP message, leading to excessive memory consumption and a Denial of Service (DoS) condition where the application becomes unresponsive or crashes.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-08-03 02:01:37 UTC
In Bouncy Castle for Java before 1.85, OpenPGP user-attribute subpacket length bounded only by JVM max memory. This issue also affects Bouncy Castle for Java LTS before 2.73.12, and Bouncy Castle for Java FIPS (BC-FJA) before bcpg-fips 1.0.13 (1.0.X series), 2.0.13 (2.0.X series) and 2.1.13 (2.1.X series).
