Doc Text:
A flaw was found in netcdf-c. An attacker can craft a malicious HDF5 (Hierarchical Data Format 5) file with an oversized attribute name. When an application processes this file and attempts to enumerate attribute names, the oversized name can cause an out-of-bounds write, leading to memory corruption and application crashes. This vulnerability could result in a denial of service.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-04 22:51:29 UTC
Unidata netcdf-c through 4.10.1 contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in NC4_HDF5_inq_attname() that copies HDF5 attribute names into a fixed 256-byte buffer without length validation. Attackers can craft HDF5 files with oversized attribute names to overflow the destination buffer, causing memory corruption and crashes when applications enumerate attribute names.
