A flaw was found in GitPython. A remote attacker could exploit a regular expression denial of service (ReDoS) vulnerability by crafting a malicious commit object. Specifically, a malformed author field containing an unterminated angle bracket can cause excessive processing, leading to the exhaustion of CPU resources and a denial of service for over two minutes per commit access.

Description OSIDB Bzimport 2026-09-09 11:31:42 UTC
GitPython before 3.1.60 contains a regular expression denial of service vulnerability in Actor.name_email_regex that processes commit author and committer fields. Attackers can craft a commit object with a malformed author field containing an unterminated angle bracket to cause quadratic backtracking, exhausting CPU resources for over two minutes per commit access.
